Mass Plas - Transitional Emergency Shelters
Exploded technical diagram of the Mass Plas modular construction system

How it works

Rapid construction, engineered to last.

The Mass Plas system is Irish manufactured and uses mesh-based grid construction with FRP uprights and rafters, plus steel-braced frames, so a complete unit can be assembled quickly with minimum skills and tools.

Proven quality, full compliance and control over the build.

It is not about one single country of origin. It is about a controlled manufacturing process, specialist suppliers and materials selected because they meet strict Mass Plas performance requirements.

60-year design life

Every unit is built to a certified long-life system standard.

Irish manufactured

The core Mass Plas system is designed and manufactured in our own factory, giving direct control over quality, production and every part of the build.

Specialist components

Fibreglass I-beams are sourced from Donegal, moulded parts from BL Engineering in Bangor, and high-grade materials from trusted European suppliers, including Germany where performance requirements demand it.

Tested and certified

Every unit is fully tested and independently certified to BOPAS, EU Construction Regulations, UKCA and all relevant building standards.

The build sequence

Four stages from bare ground to ready unit.

  1. 01

    Grid floor system

A mesh-based polymer grid floor is laid and back-filled with gravel or clay, creating a stable, level base on almost any terrain — no concrete slab required.

  2. 02

    FRP & steel frame

FRP uprights and rafters lock into steel-bracketed main frames and cross members, forming a rigid, load-tested structural skeleton.

  3. 03

    Standard panels

Standard-size wall panels — with or without window units — clad the frame quickly, with door openings positioned to suit the layout.

  4. 04

    Fit-out & expand

Units are fitted for living or enterprise use, and can be joined and expanded to create larger internal spaces as needs grow.

The foundation

A grid floor that works on difficult ground.

The interlocking polymer grid floor is the heart of the system. Laid directly onto site and back-filled with gravel or clay, it spreads load, drains water and provides a clean, level platform — even across the mud and uneven terrain typical of emergency settlements.

  • No concrete slab or heavy plant required
  • Drains and stabilises soft, wet ground
  • Connects seamlessly to the structural frame
  • Repeatable across large, ordered settlements
